Kilimanjaro Charity Climb

Saving Children's Lives One Step at a Time

Will you help us celebrate 10 years of impact by supporting our Kilimanjaro Charity Climb?

100% of your gift goes directly to Every Child Fed’s new initiative to prevent child malnutrition by supporting at-risk mothers. Our goal is to raise $46,000 ($1,000 for each of the 46 miles we will trek). This is also the amount needed to cover the program costs for two years of the new initiative in Sierra Leone (more details below).

The Climbing Team

About Every Child Fed’s New Initiative

Every Child Fed is dedicated to ending needless childhood death caused by severe malnutrition. As we continue to support the local production and distribution of RUTF, we are also working on ways to prevent children from ever facing this devastating health crisis. (RUTF = Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food, a nutrient dense peanut butter paste that is the protocol treatment for severe acute malnutrition)

Not surprisingly, research has shown that a child’s health suffers when their mother suffers from depression. Supporting mothers’ mental health can be an effective and sustainable tool to prevent child malnutrition.

We are excited to partner with Dr. Manary and Project Peanut Butter to launch a new pilot program to provide low-cost, community-based, culturally-appropriate support for at-risk mothers who are suffering from depression. With this new project, we will expand beyond the treatment-based model of saving lives to include holistic prevention.

Our pilot program is based on the “Friendship Bench” model from Zimbabwe. We plan to launch this new initiative in 2022 in the Pujehun District of Sierra Leone. We will refine the model and design research studies to validate the approach over the next five years. In the first year we will train two trusted nurses (who currently work in our malnutrition clinics) to provide the mental health support to mothers.

We are very excited about this new phase of our journey to stop preventable child deaths. As Every Child Fed moves into our second decade of work, we are committed to surpassing our original goal of providing the RUTF needed to treat severe acute malnutrition. We want to support mothers to prevent it!
When mother’s thrive, kids thrive!

(Note: The total cost of the trip is personally covered by the individuals climbing. 100% of funds raised go directly to helping mothers and children in Sierra Leone)

Mount Kilimanjaro

A dormant volcano in Tanzania, it is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world. The team will take 8 days to trek 46 miles to reach the Uhuru Peak at an elevation of 19,341 feet. Check out the video to learn about Kilimanjaro.
